About

Sidbury Primary is a multigrade, multiracial, English medium school, catering for learners from Preschool to Grade 3. The Primary School is a State school, with a Preschool which is funded by the parents through school fees.

School fees are R6000.00 per year (R600 per month over 10 months, Jan. to Nov. payable in the first week of each month.)

The school is situated between Grahamstown (50km) and Port Elizabeth (80km) and is attended by the children whose parents work on the surrounding Game Reserves – Amakhala, Lalibela and Shamwari.

Our emphasis is to provide quality education through participation rather than competition.

Our aim is to instil the skills, attitudes and values which will develop each child as a whole (confidence, self-discipline, tolerance, thoughtfulness, truthfulness, punctuality).

We incorporate the OBE methods of teaching in our daily programme, using theme teaching and the National Assessment Standards of CAPS.

Because of the small classes (one Primary and one Preschool, incorporating Grade R) the children are able to receive individual attention and are able to develop at their own pace, often at a higher level, which is a great advantage of a multigrade school.

We encourage reading and care of books through our library. (Parents are encouraged to read to and with their children).

All learners receive written reports every term. Parents can discuss the report with the teacher, by making an appointment.

All learners have a note book, in which letters and notices are sent home.

Although we have no formal sports programme, the learners’ ball skills are developed and they are then encouraged to play tennis, cricket and soccer during break and for the past two years have had hockey coaching in the two middle terms.

The children enjoy a variety of educational outings throughout the year, e.g. visits to game reserves, museums and the Amakhala Conservation Centre programmes. They also attend drama productions in Grahamstown and take part in the annual Grahamstown Eisteddfod.
